2027 Kia Sportage HEV: Driver-Assist and Safety Tech Highlights

2027 Kia Sportage HEV: Driver-Assist and Safety Tech Highlights

The 2027 Kia Sportage HEV brings a refreshed suite of driver-assist and safety technologies across its three trim levels. If you're comparing hybrid SUVs and want to understand what safety and tech features come standard - and what upgrades are available as you move up the lineup - this guide breaks it down trim by trim.

The Sportage HEV is built for families who want hybrid efficiency without sacrificing space or safety. With seating for five, 1,119 litres of cargo capacity, and a towing capacity of 2,000 lb (907 kg), it handles daily commutes and weekend trips equally well. The hybrid powertrain pairs a 1.6-litre turbo engine with a 47.7 kW electric motor, delivering 6.7 L/100 km combined fuel economy.

Standard Safety Across All Trims

Every 2027 Sportage HEV - from the base EX to the top-tier SX - includes a comprehensive suite of driver-assist systems. Lane Following Assist 2 keeps the vehicle centred in its lane on the highway, while Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Avoidance Assist cover your blind spots when changing lanes or backing out of parking spaces. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist monitors traffic ahead and can apply the brakes if a collision is imminent.

Eight airbags are standard across all trims, providing frontal, side-impact, and head-curtain protection for all occupants.

Technology Features: What's Standard, What's Optional

All Sportage HEV trims feature dual 12.3-inch panoramic displays - one for the instrument cluster, one for infotainment. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Kia Connect with over-the-air software updates. The system supports remote start, cabin preconditioning, and route planning through your smartphone.

Smart Key with push-button start is standard across the lineup. Digital Key 2.0, which lets you lock, unlock, and start the vehicle using your smartphone, is standard on the SX trim.

The EX Premium and SX trims add a wireless cell phone charger. The SX upgrades to a 10-inch Head-up Display, Surround-View Monitor with 3D view, and a 12.3-inch curved TFT display with premium audio.

Highway Driving Assist 2: The SX Advantage.

Highway Driving Assist 2 is exclusive to the SX trim. HDA 2 combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centring to reduce driver fatigue on long highway stretches. The system maintains a set speed and following distance, adjusts for curves, and keeps the vehicle centred in its lane. It works in stop-and-go traffic and on open highways.

The SX also adds Front, Side, and Rear Parking Distance Warning - sensors that alert you to obstacles when manoeuvring in tight spaces. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2 with Direct Oncoming Detection & Avoidance is also available on the SX, providing enhanced collision monitoring compared to the base system.

Exterior Design Updates for 2027

The 2027 Sportage HEV features Kia's updated Familial Front/Rear design with vertical star-map DRL graphics and a three-dimensional radiator grille. A panoramic sunroof, roof rails, and acoustic laminated windshield are available depending on trim. The exterior design creates a modern, rugged, and sporty image with a boldly proportioned bumper and skid plate.

Interior Comfort and Convenience

The Sportage HEV offers 1,050 mm of rear legroom and a dual-level cargo floor for flexible storage. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are available on upper trims. The EX Premium and SX trims add ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.

Drive Mode Select is standard across all trims, allowing you to adjust throttle response and transmission behaviour for different driving conditions.
